So today is 7 days of Galaxy Tab ownership and I have used it every day for most things, including writing this blog. I have installed 30 different apps, charged it twice and even left the house with it once! I'm not going to re-cap everything I have looked at this week but just going to add some general observations that I have found while using it.
The experience of using the tablet has generally been excellent although I have noticed some significant slowdowns when using it particularly when I have first turned it on. It seems that it almost needs a few minutes to get up to speed while everything warms up. I have also noticed this at other times when I have been switching between a few apps doing a couple of different tasks it does struggle a little. I will say that this is likely to be the same with any of the tablets available today especially any of the other Android ones because they all run on the same hardware which is broadly similar to that of the iPad, although that has less RAM available from what I understand.
I have also seen problems with installation of some of the apps from the Android market. Now I don't know if this bug affects other Honeycomb based tablets (if you have seen it please get in touch) but sometimes when you click install in the market it starts to download it and then once the download has finished it just stops. You have to click the install button and download it again to get it to install. Now I have seen this bug a couple of times out of the 30 apps I have downloaded and installed and its not just 3rd party stuff it also affects the Google apps too. Its just a slight annoyance rather than any sort of problem but worth mentioning all the same.
If your still considering a tablet purchase, which I know many of you are, then please don't let this put you off as the experience on the whole is very good and I am very pleased with my gadget. If your familiar with using an Android phone then this tablet will make a perfect companion, plus the many excellent features we have looked at this week far outweigh any of the problems.
To look at the week ahead here is an idea of what's in store if you are an avid reader
- Can I live without the laptop/PC?
- Android Market and other App stores
- What accessories do you need/want to consider
If you have any other topics you would like to see covered then please let me know.
