I know that Android and Honeycomb are both still works in progress but it does make you die a little inside when your nice new shiny gadget crashes on you even when it just does it a little bit. As part of owning the Galaxy Tab I guess you should expect this to happen every now and again, and this is supposed to be a warts and all blog so I feel duty bound to tell you readers all about it.
As part of the pre-installed apps that Samsung has included with the tab there is the Polaris Office suite to allow you to view and edit MS Office format documents. Now you may be thinking "well this is just bloat-ware" and I must admit to it being my first reaction too, but its not bad.

I was able to successfully use it to view Excel and Word documents and also edit them although this was more a mission as you have to put it into edit mode to do it. One of the features I liked was that I could load the document from my NAS box and edit it on the tab. A slightly annoying feature is that it likes to try and persuade you that you should sign up for an account in the "cloud" somewhere which is a little annoying, although you can store and load documents from local storage.
I am however, digressing from the title of this blog entry the mini-crash. It was while I was using Polaris Office that I experienced the crash. I was editing a basic Word document stored locally on the tablet, downloaded from an e-mail, and as I considered what to write next the tablet went to sleep. During the few seconds of sleep there was a buzz from the tablet (vibrate) and then the start-up noise and as I woke the screen it was re-connecting the Wi-Fi. I then had to re-open my document and make the changes all over again as I hadn't saved it, although the saving function with Polaris is a little sketchy. Unfortunately you now know as much as I do as the tablet was in its sleep state at the time of the crash, hence why I have called it a mini-crash. I will of course keep you up to date if I suffer any more crashes and what caused them. This time I think we can put it down to Polaris Office.
If you have anything you would like me to test in particular please do get in touch and we will see what we can sort out.

i cant even open any docuements in Polaris, except PDF. Word, excel or PPT - it crashes. Many people online have experienced the same also. any advice?
